Hospice Operations
We’ve now been open for over two months and in that time we have touched the lives of over 40 patients and their families. The feedback we are receiving is wonderful, as is the continued support we are getting from our community. We recently posted on our Facebook page that we were seeking donations of navy coloured towels and the response was overwhelming. We are so grateful to everyone who supports us, whether that be through financial donations, donations of goods, or just sharing our messages far and wide. Thank you to everyone.
We continue to work with our local Community Healthcare providers to collaborate on palliative care services for Central Queenslanders. We are passionate about ensuring that everyone in CQ, and their loved ones, has access to dedicated end-of-life care, and that their journey is treated with empathy and respect.
On that note, we will soon be hosting our first memorial evening for the families of patients who have been cared for at Fitzroy Community Hospice. This will be a special remembrance ceremony to celebrate the lives of those who have left us.
We have commenced onboarding of volunteers in various support areas and thank everyone for their interest in being part of our team.
We’d like to say a special thank you to the River City Baptist Church for their recent donation of $2400, which contributed to the purchase of a Hoverjack for Fitzroy Community Hospice. This piece of equipment will assist our nursing staff in safely lifting patients in the event of a fall.
If you are interested in making a donation to support the purchase of a specific piece of equipment, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you!
Sheamus’ Super Sized Donation
We were delighted to welcome Sheamus O’Reilly and his wife Mara to the hospice this week, and not simply because he brought a super sized cheque with him! Having recently completed the Yeppoon Running Festival Half Marathon, Sheamus raised $10,057 in the process and had the Autopact Foundation match it, bringing his total to a tremendous $20,057. We are extremely grateful for this effort, and the generosity shown to Sheamus by his supporters. Thank you to everyone involved, especially Sheamus (and Mara for encouraging Sheamus to do the run!)
