The finishing touches are being put on our 12th patient room and adjoining two bedroom unit at Fitzroy Community Hospice. We are so proud and excited to share photos of these new areas as soon as we can, along with a brand new walk-through video of our entire facility. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for this new content coming soon.

Taking a look at our recent admission statistics, we have had a total of 142 admissions in the 9 months from 10 June 2024 to 26 March 2025. Reasons for admission were: Symptom Management (20%), Respite Care for carer support (11%), and End-of-life care (69%).

We also have a list of 20 patients who are pre-approved for admission as soon as they require it.

We’ve now held 4 Memorial Evenings to celebrate the lives of patients who have left us. These evenings have all been well attended, providing a warm, reflective space for family and friends to remember their loved ones. We are honoured to be able to provide this bereavement support service for the growing community of people who’s lives we have touched and plans for our April Memorial Evening are underway.

All together, these figures paint a picture of the profound impact the Hospice is having on the lives of Central Queenslanders living with an incurable illness, and their families. It is certainly a rich tapestry of compassionate care which we will continue to weave for our community.

THANK YOU Rise Forever, In Memory of Eli

Last weekend, a beautiful celebration was held to honour the life of Eli Kent. Organised by his mum Jacquie, Rise Forever In Memory of Eli was an incredible night of remembrance, love, fun and fundraising, with the Yeppoon community coming together to raise in excess of $26,000 for Fitzroy Community Hospice. A remarkable outcome from a memorable evening! Our heartfelt thanks to Jacquie, her family and all her supporters, and the team from The Paddock for delivering a stellar event.

It was wonderful to have two of our Founding Partners also present: Colin & Catherine Dunne and Leylan & Karen Sparke. Pictured L-R: Colin Dunne, Debbie Richards, Catherine Dunne, Leylan Sparke, Karen Sparke, Karen Quinn, Beth Thomas, Louise Clare, Megan Anderson and Steve Richards.

Volunteers Update

From little things, big things grow. We have built a wonderfully proactive team of weekday volunteers who are contributing so much to so many aspects of the Hospice. We are looking to fill more afternoon and weekend shifts in our 5 key volunteer roles: Care & Support, Administration, Hospitality, Maintenance and Fundraising. To find out more about these volunteer roles, and to download a Volunteer Application Form, click the button below.

We look forward to developing our volunteer program even further in 2025.
