Fitzroy Community Hospice is preparing to host a free Advance Care Planning community workshop next Monday 11 May, during National Palliative Care Week.

Fitzroy Community Hospice Clinical Services Manager, Megan Anderson said everyone should consider advance care planning regardless of age or health.

“Advance care planning is a key part of delivering person-centred care and is more than just filling out a form,” Mrs Anderson said.

“It’s about open communication, understanding your options and making sure your choices guide your care when it matters most.

“We understand these conversations can sometimes feel difficult, but they are also incredibly powerful and provide you with a voice, a choice, and the opportunity to ensure your future care reflects what’s most important to you.

“Currently only 1 in 3 Australians have taken steps to plan their future health care, and we want to increase this. Our free community workshop will provide practical tips and guide you through how to fill out your documents,” she said.
