Establishment Progress
With construction now complete at 38 Agnes Street, Rockhampton, further finishing and commissioning tasks are well underway. This includes purchase and installation of additional equipment and furniture, landscaping, broader staff recruitment, and preparation for health service licencing and accreditation. The goal is to have an Official Opening Event in May followed by some Community Open Days, and then open for care in June. It’s a jam-packed timeline that we remain excited and determined to deliver.
Fundraising Progress
As a result of both the generous contributions of Central Queenslanders and the Australian Government grant funding, the hospice facility can now be completed to the standard required to open, and our community deserves a HUGE thank you!
In the first half of 2024 our fundraising focus is to:
- Enhance the finishing of the facility so that it exceeds minimum standards and provides optimal comfort for patients and families, and
- Nurture community donations to generate the funding required to adequately support running costs upon opening.
We’re excited to announce the date of our first major fundraiser for the year. Hoist for Hospice will be held on Friday 19 April 2024 at CocoBrew Express Rockhampton! Thank you to CQ Crane Hire and Triple M CQ for coming on board to support Hoist for Hospice again this year.

A peek inside for our Founding Partners
Recently we’ve been able to invite slightly larger groups of people to have a peek inside Fitzroy Community Hospice, so we can showcase the incredible facility that has been built. These lucky people are representatives from our Founding Partners and other key supporters and there’s nothing we love more than being able to physically show them how their generous contributions have been utilised to create a one-of-a-kind legacy project.
While it’s empty at the moment, the hospice already has such a calming, peaceful atmosphere with lots of natural light, and the amazing western aspect is truly captivating.
It gives us so much joy to be able to share how far we’ve come in creating an incredibly special space that will make such a difference to our community for many, many years to come.
